A Message to Our Readers

ETFO Voice

Dear Members,

For 27 years, ETFO Voice magazine has been a cornerstone of our union community, landing in your mailboxes and bringing you vital news, insightful features, and a powerful sense of connection to public school educators across Ontario. We are deeply proud of this publication and its role in amplifying your voices and our collective work.

We are writing to you today with an important update regarding the magazine’s format. At the 2025 ETFO Annual Meeting, a decision was made by delegates to reduce the Voice budget for the 2025-26 school year, as they urged ETFO to move to a digital publication. This shift was intended to lessen our environmental impact by reducing paper use, printing and distribution emissions.

We recognize that this decision brings some uncertainty. We know that the vast majority of ETFO members subscribe to the print magazine. Many members appreciate the tangible experience of a print publication delivered to your home. Many also recognize that Voice has for many years been committed to sustainable practices, using paper that is both forest-friendly and contains recycled content, printed with low-VOC inks to minimize its environmental impact, and delivered through Canada Post.

As we determine the best path forward, the 2025-26 school year will be dedicated to a member-driven transition process. We will collect data, consult with the membership, and evaluate the environmental impact of this digital shift. Most importantly, this ensures that all ETFO members are integral to deciding the future of the publication.

Over the coming months, we will be assessing the benefits and impacts of this change on our members. We are committed to listening and learning from your direct experience. To that end, we will be reaching out to solicit your feedback through a subscriber survey and by inviting a cross-section of members to participate in focused discussion groups. Your insights will be invaluable in helping us understand what is working, what can be improved, and what the long-term future of our union’s flagship publication should look like.

Your voice built this magazine, and your voice will guide its future. We are excited to embark on this new chapter with you, exploring innovative ways to inform, engage, and unite our powerful community.

Thank you for your continued readership and your unwavering commitment to ETFO.
