Earlier this year, the Ontario Teachers’ Pension Plan (OTPP) and our government partner developed the first of two surveys — one to be carried out this school year and one next school year.

Business as usual at OTF means that research is constant and ongoing. While OTF conducts its own research as needed, we are often informed by carefully reviewing and analyzing the research of others.

The   Ontario  Teachers’   Federation has  a mandate  to  focus  on  three  areas  of concern to  educators:  policy and legislation, professional advocacy,  and pension.

The Current Economic Crisis has  been likened to the Great Depression and has created pressures that most Ontarians have not experienced before.

In years to come, pension  aficionados  will  identify  significant changes in the history of Ontario teachers’ pension plans.

Bargaining, teacher pensions, and the October 14 federal election were the topics in the forefront  at  the  October  Representative  Council meeting. Representative Council brings together local presidents and executive members three times a year. The meeting is chaired by First Vice-President Sam Hammond.

Members of the Ontario Teachers’ Pension Plan understand  that  they  enjoy  a  superior  array of  benefits  as  part  of  their  pension  package. Recognizing that fact, members in a survey last year supported phased increases in their benefit contributions.

Delegates  to  the  ETFO  Annual  Meeting  reelected me to the position of OTF table officer. After serving for a year as OTF president, it is my pleasure to be able to continue to inform you about  issues pertinent to the 155,000 teachers employed in Ontario’s publicly funded schools.
