Canada is changing: we are rapidly becoming a more diverse country. Our population, our  students, our communities,  and our workforce  look much different than they did a mere two decades ago.  Canada is  touted as  the  land of  fairness, opportunity, and equality.

Reinforcing positive behaviour is a far more effective strategy for creating a positive learning environment than  challenging a student's behaviour through  negative reinforcement.

Tossing  and turning,  staring at  the  ceiling,  and worrying. What if the students don’t like me? What I am too mean? Or worse, what if I’m too nice? The night  before my first  day of  teaching I was nervous! I was also extremely excited!

As ETFO educators, we want to  make a  difference in the lives of our students. We expect challenging and  rewarding  careers. What we don’t expect  are  working conditions that  push stress levels  toward burnout.

Rather than addressing job-related issues (excessive workload, large class sizes, poor management techniques) that  may be contributing to  absenteeism, Ontario school boards  have decided to “assist” their  employees by  implementing  attendance management  programs (AMPs).
