With this summer women’s issue of Voice, we begin to look forward at what kind of recovery we want to see in Ontario as the COVID-19 pandemic recedes.

ETFO had five days of respectful talks at the central bargaining table this summer with the Ontario Public School Boards’ Association and the Council of Trustees’ Association.

You are the heart of Ontario’s world-class public education system. I want to welcome you back to a school year full of promise and challenge, both in the classroom and at the bargaining table.

With contracts expiring at the end of August, this issue of Voice focuses on collective bargaining. It also includes an interview with three local leaders.

We need to elect a government that will be committed to decent work, a well-funded public education system, better public services and a strong social safety net for all Ontarians.

Our commitment to equity and the environment means that we must elect a government in Ontario that takes justice and fairness seriously.

The spring issue of Voice focuses on how we can make a positive impact on our communities, our society and our environment.

With the passing of Bill 148, the Fair Workplaces, Better Jobs Act, we see how effective organizing is when we are working together to achieve the gains that will benefit the majority of workers in Ontario.

While austerity and precarious work are increasingly common in the province, we are presently in a moment of opportunity.
